The truth of the matter is that users will always have a reason to return their device – be it due to buyer’s remorse, a desire to exchange it for a newer or different model, software and/or hardware issues or any other reason. But not all device returns are warranted – they can be avoided. These are what those of us in the mobile industry would refer to as “No Trouble Found” returns – in other words, devices that could have been repaired. When NTF devices are returned, it’s more than just a nuisance to mobile users; it costs the carriers and OE Ms an average of $100 to accept and remarket the used device.
